Our Staff

Jennifer

Owner of Lucky Dog Grocery & Pet Bakery / Lucky Biscuit Pet Bakery

After adopting a Boston Terrier mix in 2011, Jennifer enrolled in a pet training class and was inspired to open her own pet business. A year later she left her teaching career to launch Lucky Dog Pet Grocery & Bakery, an award-winning pet supply store in Lawrence, KS.  Lucky Dog was named one of America’s coolest Pet Stores in 2021 by Pets+ Magazine.
In 2012, the bakery opened in store and has grown to be a major part of  Lucky Dog’s identity. In 2023, the bakery branched off from the store and Lucky Biscuit Pet Bakery was born. You can find our cookies in independent stores in 49 states.
Jennifer has more pets than she will admit to publicly.  When not working, Jennifer enjoys music, reading about pet health/nutrition and playing with her pets!

Kaylie

Baker

Kaylie started in the bakery in 2022 and bakes all of the cookies!  Her love of animals is why she wanted to work at Lucky Dog and Kaylie became a full time baker at Lucky Biscuit in 2023. “My coworkers and the customers make it a lovely work environment.”  She has two cats.

Haley

Bakery Assistant

Haley started her baking career with Lucky Dog in 2020 as a baker and is responsible for making and decorating our bakery treats. Haley and her partner have a 7 year old tabby cat named Mister and a German Short Hair and Heeler mix named Chuck. Outside of work she enjoys drawing, painting, & playing Dungeons & Dragons.

Kayla

Bakery Manager

Kayla began working at Lucky Dog Pet Grocery & Bakery in 2017 while studying visual art at the University of Kansas. Her artistic background was instrumental in developing the signature, whimsical aesthetic of our bakery cookies.  In 2023, she moved over to lead our wholesale bakery, Lucky Biscuit Pet Bakery.  “Working at Lucky Dog/Lucky Biscuit allows me to have a creative outlet while also helping animals in the community. Not only do I design cookies, I have a knowledgeable background in pet nutrition, specifically felines.”  Kayla and her partner have four cats named Peri, Pretzel, Marcel and Squid, a Border Collie/Mini Australian Shepherd Mix named Huxley and a Shiba Inu named Clover.

Pretzel

Head Chef, Cat Treat Tester

“My name is Cheddar Pretzel the Kid, but you can call me Pretzel. I started working at Lucky Dog when I was only five weeks old! My favorite thing to do is to lay on the sales counter and steal toys any chance I get. Nowadays, I boss the bakers around at Lucky Biscuit, taste-test treats while my staff is decorating, and play with my favorite toy, Mr. Piggy. I am also the only staff member allowed to sleep on the job.”
